There’s an interesting mix of the usual suspects and some unexpected names when you take a look through the players with the most goals and assists in Europe’s top five leagues – Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1 – in 2023-24 so far.

Stars from Inter, Liverpool, PSG, Bayern Munich and Manchester City make the top 10 list for goal contributions, alongside one or two names you might not expect to see. We’ve taken a closer look at the full list for goal contributions across the major European leagues this season.

Note: if two players are tied on goal contributions, we’ve ordered them by their ratio of goals and assists per minute.

10. Marcus Thuram – 20 (10 goals, 10 assists)

Inter Milan look well set to win Serie A this season and Thuram’s contribution of 10 goals and 10 assists has been invaluable to their title push.

It’s also indicative of France’s strength in depth that the 26-year-old isn’t necessarily a lock to go to the European Championship this summer. Madness.

9. Olivier Giroud – 20 (12 goals, 8 assists)

While Giroud’s most memorable this season was his star turn as emergency goalkeeper against Genoa, the evergreen striker continues to bang in the goals and provide assists for AC Milan.

At what point does a footballer stop being underrated?

8. Bukayo Saka – 20 (12 goals, 8 assists)

Arsenal’s star boy is one of the best around – and we have the stats to prove it.

7. Lois Openda – 20 (16 goals, 4 assists)

Manchester United are thought to be heavily interested in signing Openda this summer and it’s no wonder – the Belgium international has been sensational since joining Leipzig in 2023 and is already posting elite numbers.

6. Erling Haaland – 21 (16 goals, 5 assists)

The Norwegian came out on top of this chart last season by some distance – thanks way more to his goalscoring than his assisting – and he’s certainly in the running to do so again in 2023-24.

Haaland is inevitable. Even after injuries and a relative goal drought, his two goals against Everton were a masterclass in clinical finishing.

5. Mohamed Salah – 24 (15 goals, 9 assists)

Liverpool reportedly turned down a world-record bid from Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad for their Egyptian King last summer, and he’s repaid their faith in droves.

The Reds only lost two league games all season and Salah has once again been their talisman. It’s all set up for an irresistible end to the season.

4. Lautaro Martinez – 24 (20 goals, 4 assists)

Inter have arguably been the best side across Europe’s major leagues this season – they boast both a mean defence and a prolific attack.

Their Argentinian World Cup winner up top has been one of the pillars of their excellent 2023-24 campaign to date.

The Serie A giants failed to get old strike partner Romelu Lukaku back on loan, but recent evidence suggests that Martinez alone is more than enough firepower. He’s scored or assisted in the vast majority of his appearances this season and is averaging a goal or assist every 76 minutes in the Italian top flight.

3. Ollie Watkins – 25 (13 goals, 12 assists)

Watkins has been sensational in 2023-24, leading Aston Villa’s Champions League charge and placing himself firmly at the front of the queue to be Harry Kane’s back-up at Euro 2024.

One of the most consistent goalscorers in the Premier League, Watkins is also an astute provider of assists for his team-mates – nobody else on this list can match his total of 12.

2. Kylian Mbappe – 25 (21 goals, 4 assists)

Mbappe might be leaving PSG this summer, but he’s proven his ruthless class over the past six months.

The 25-year-old is PSG’s all-time top goalscorer and he looks sharper than ever right now. As things stand, Mbappe is averaging a goal contribution in Ligue 1 every 65.2 minutes and is on track to have one of his best seasons yet.

1. Harry Kane – 30 (25 goals, 5 assists)

Bayern Munich might be underperforming, but nobody could level that accusation against Kane – the England captain is on track to break all sorts of goalscoring records in his first Bundesliga season. Yet another Golden Boot is surely in the pipeline.
