Football League World takes a look at the 10 Norwich players who are set to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season as things stand

Norwich City witnessed a lot of changes over the summer of 2024, as former manager David Wagner was sacked following last season's play-off embarrassment at Leeds United, and replaced by current boss Johannes Hoff Thorup.

Following Hoff Thorup's arrival, the Canaries were also busy in the transfer market and signed players such as Panama international defender Jose Cordoba, who has impressed during the early exchanges of the Championship campaign.

Next summer could also play host to plenty of changes at Carrow Road, as Football League World takes a look at the 10 Canaries players who are set to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season if nothing changes:

Angus Gunn

Goalkeeper Angus Gunn initially joined the Norfolk outfit on loan from former club Manchester City, and was ever-present between the sticks for Norwich during the 2017/18 Championship season.

The Scotland international left Man City on a permanent basis to join Southampton in 2018, and spent time on loan with Stoke City during the 2020/21 campaign.

During the summer of 2021, Gunn returned to Carrow Road as a permanent player.

He was a first team regular for the club during each of the last two seasons, and has continued to enjoy number one status under Hoff Thorup, prior to suffering an injury during a recent 4-0 win over Hull City.

However, the Canaries shot-stopper is out of contract this summer, after signing a four-year deal back in 2021, and will be able to leave on a free transfer if he doesn't put pen to paper on an extension.

Christian Fassnacht

Switzerland international Christian Fassnacht moved to the Canaries from Swiss Super League outfit Young Boys ahead of the 2023/24 season, and went on to make 42 Championship appearances.

The winger also made an appearance for Thorup's side on the opening day of the current campaign, but suffered an achilles problem which has kept him out of action since.

After signing a two-year contract in 2023, Fassnacht could be set to depart Carrow Road this summer, but the club do have the option to extend his stay for a further year.

Emiliano Marcondes

The Canaries signed former Bournemouth and Brentford man Emiliano Marcondes in early October on a free transfer, after his Cherries contract expired over the summer.

The former Denmark youth international scored during Brentford's 2-0 win over Swansea City in the 2021 Championship play-off final, and the Carrow Road faithful would love to see him achieve a similar feat in Norwich colours.

But although the Canaries signed Marcondes so recently, he could leave the club on a free transfer in 2025, after signing a deal which keeps him in Norfolk until the end of the season.

However, the club do have the option to hand the 29-year-old an extra year should he impress.

Jacob Sorensen

Jacob Sorensen is somewhat of a Canaries stalwart, having initially signed for the club from Danish Superligaen side Esbjerg fB back in 2020.

During his first season at Carrow Road, Sorensen made 32 Championship appearances as the Canaries won promotion from the second tier to the Premier League.

However, the Danishman made just 10 top-flight appearances during the subsequent 2021/22 campaign, and has never made more than 19 Championship outings in a single season since due to injury issues.

Sorensen signed a contract extension three years ago, which kept him at Carrow Road until 2024, and the club exercised their option to hand him a further year, which will see him remain in Norfolk until the end of the season.

According to Transfermarkt, the Canaries can extend the Dane's contract by a year once more, but if this option is not taken, then he will be able to leave on a free transfer.

Grant Hanley

Since joining the Canaries back in 2017, Scotland international defender Grant Hanley has established himself as a firm fan favourite at Carrow Road, largely thanks to the fact that he won two Championship titles with the club in both 2019 and 2021.

Hanley is a modern day Norwich legend, but he made just eight appearances in the second tier last season, which demonstrates that he has slipped down the club's pecking order following years of excellent service.

His contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and it would seem like the right time for the centre-back - who turns 33 in November - to leave.

Onel Hernandez

After initially signing for the Carrow Road side back in 2017, Onel Hernandez was also a part of the Canaries set-up under former boss Daniel Farke, who finished top of the Championship in both 2019 and 2021.

The Cuba international seemingly fell out of favour midway through his Norwich career, as he endured loan spells at both Middlesbrough and Birmingham City during the 2021/22 season, while his parent club were in the Premier League.

But since then, Hernandez has become a Canaries regular once more, and made 69 appearances across the last two Championship seasons.

His current deal is set to expire in 2025, but the club do retain the option to extend his stay by a further year.

Ashley Barnes

After leaving former club Burnley to join the Canaries during the summer of 2023, Ashley Barnes enjoyed a relatively successful first season at Carrow Road last campaign, as he scored six goals, and produced five assists in the Championship, helping his side land a play-off spot.

But due to an injury blow, the former Clarets man has not featured for the Norfolk outfit since last season's play-off semi-final defeat at Leeds.

Barnes signed a two-year contract at Carrow Road back in 2023, but could extend his stay by a further year, according to Transfermarkt.

Jonathan Tomkinson

Canaries academy product Jonathan Tomkinson made three first-team appearances during the 2022/23 campaign, with two coming in the EFL Cup, and one in the Championship.

But since then, the 22-year-old has not made a senior appearance for the Carrow Road side, and spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Stevenage, then of League Two, before enduring yet another fourth tier loan spell with Bradford City last campaign.

He could be set to leave the club at the end of the season, as his current contract expires in 2025, but the club do have the option to offer him an extra year, should they still see potential.

Jaden Warner

Jaden Warner is one of Tomkinson's fellow Canaries youth academy products, and made two Championship appearances for the club last season, before joining League Two Notts County on loan last January.

Warner made yet another senior appearance for the Norfolk outfit when they defeated Stevenage 4-3 in a dramatic EFL Cup encounter back in August.

However, the 21-year-old is yet to make a Championship outing this season, and could be set to leave Carrow Road during the summer of 2025, when his contract expires.

Archie Mair

Since joining the Canaries back in 2019, 23-year-old goalkeeper Archie Mair has endured several loan spells in both non-league, with the likes of King's Lynn Town and Dartford, as well as the Football League with the likes of Lincoln City and Morecambe.

In fact, Mair has never made a senior appearance for Norwich, and his current deal with the club is set to expire at the end of the season, after the club took up the option of a one-year extension.

But according to Transfermarkt, yet another extension option is in place for the former Scotland youth international.
