Filip Jorgensen has revealed what his ambitions are for the season and why he joined the club after making the switch to Chelsea this summer.

The 22-year-old arrived from Spanish side Villarreal in a deal worth £20.7m and the Denmark under-21 international has penned a seven year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Jorgensen was signed to challenge Robert Sanchez for the number one spot, but so far he’s played second fiddle to the Spaniard who has had good start to the campaign.

The Dane has so far been limited to the cup competitions and has made four appearances for the Blues, keeping two clean sheets and conceding four goals.

Jorgensen was the third goalkeeper to arrive at Chelsea in the last three windows after Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic were signed in 2023, before young talent Mike Penders was also signed this summer.

Petrovic was sent on loan to Strasbourg this summer and still has aspirations of becoming Chelsea’s number one in the future.

At this point in time it appears for Jorgensen to be given a run in the league Sanchez will need to go through a poor run of form or pick up an injury, and he must make the most of every opportunity given and make sure he gives Enzo Maresca a selection headache.

Jorgensen certainly doesn’t lack ambition and in a recent interview he revealed what he wants to achieve with Chelsea this season.

“As a boy from Sweden who watched a lot of football, I always knew about Chelsea and what a big club they are. And the project they are doing is very good. That’s why I wanted to sign,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“I have enjoyed it very much, even more than I expected. Everyone has been very welcoming. With the facilities and everyone to help you train hard and get to the highest level, it is a dream for someone like me who loves to train and to develop.

Jorgensen’s next taste of action for Chelsea is likely to be the Conference League game away at Panathinaikos on the 24th October.
