TalkSPORT pundit Darren Ambrose has been discussing man of the moment Cole Palmer and has explained why he doesn’t believe he’s world class yet.

Palmer has picked up where he left off last season and has made a brilliant start to the campaign with six goals and five assists in the first seven Premier League games.

The 22-year-old was named England Player of the Year earlier this week as he added yet another award to his ever growing collection, and he will be determined to nail down a regular starting spot in the England team.

Palmer not world class

Following on from his incredible 2023/2024 season in which he was named Premier League Young Player of the Year, Palmer has shown with his start to this campaign that wasn’t a one off.

Conversation has recently centred around whether the England international is currently the best player in the league and if he’s world class.

There’s no doubt Palmer is one of the most inform players in the world right now and it’s hard to argue that any player is performing to his level and as consistently as he currently is.

Whilst many believe the former Manchester City man is world class, talkSPORT pundit Ambrose believes Palmer can’t be considered that just yet.

“He’s a sensational player and he’s going to be,” Ambrose told talkSPORT.

“He’s got massive potential. But to become world-class you have to do it for longer than one season, one and a half seasons.

“That’s what Cole Palmer’s on at the moment, world-class form. But that doesn’t make you world-class.”

Palmer’s rise to the top of the game and that fact he’s even in these conversations is remarkable given before the start of last season he hadn’t scored a single Premier League goal.

The England international has more goal contributions (44) since the start of last season than any other player in the league and both Chelsea and England will be hoping he can carry this form on for the rest of the campaign.
