It was 27 August, 2017.
It was a hot - a very hot - summer’s day in a city close to Torino called Pianezza.
But few people cared about that, because something new was born that day, a new adventure was beginning, and the story of Juventus Women was having its very first chapter written.
A Turin derby marked the first competitive game our Bianconere played, and on that day they scored their first goals - 13, to be precise - of the many they’ve gone on to score, and they gave us the first of the infinite emotions that they continue to deliver us today.
On that day, in that first chapter, there was one particular name on the team sheet, and - twice - on the scoresheet: that of Arianna Caruso.
Today we announced that our paths together are separating. Arianna is joining Bayern Munich initially on loan, with the German club obliged to buy her permanently. With this move, the doors to overseas football open for her. She has already experienced continental football with our shirt in the Women’s Champions League, a competition wherein she has scored seven goals in 35 appearances.
But it wouldn’t be fair to try to describe what Arianna has been for us, and to describe her as a “pillar” of the team would be reductive. We’ve already said that she was there with us on day 1, but not just that - a year ago she became the first Bianconera to reach 200 appearances for the club.
We will tell you all of the statistics and numbers later, though. Now it is time to say goodbye to Arianna, of course with a touch of sadness, but above all with enormous happiness to have lived these almost-eight incredible years together.
"Arianna, aong with the other girls with us from those first years, wrote important pages in our still-short history. We will forever be grateful for what she gave for this shirt. Now she felt the need to go and live a new experience abroad, with one of the most historic clubs in European women's football, and once the conditions were right for everybody, it was able to happen."
Now, then, it's time to bid farewell to Arianna, of course with sadness, but huge happiness to have lived all that we lived together in these (almost) eight years.
As she said herself on the occasion of her 200th Juventus appearance:
“Together we’ve won a lot, and we’ve been angry when it hasn’t happened But I never forgot what it meant to wear your shirt. Because Juventus is something you wear, and once you do, you never take it off. Like that wedding dress you always dreamed of, that you thought you’d never get. Juve is the end-of-year dance, the date you’ve been waiting for your whole life, the one you won’t have clear photographs from because you never once stood still.”
Thank you, Arianna, for all of the dances we’ve shared.
Good luck, Caru.
