Spanish national team captain Álvaro Morata has on Monday moved to reveal his appreciation and admiration for a sidelined Barcelona star.

As much, of course, comes fresh off Spain clinching glory on the continent late last night.

After locking horns with England in the finale of Euro 2024, La Roja ultimately emerged on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline, owing to goals on the part of Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal.

Amongst the star performers for the Spanish on the evening was Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal, who teed up friend and attacking partner Nico for the game’s opener.

On the other hand, another Blaugrana starlet forced to watch on from the sidelines came in the form of Gavi.

Sidelined since late last year owing to a serious knee injury, midfielder Gavi nevertheless played his part in his country’s Euros triumph, linking up with his compatriots on multiple occasions, including in the lead-up to Sunday’s showpiece.

Speaking as part of Spain’s trophy celebration this evening, La Roja’s captain was therefore keen to send a message of appreciation the way of the 19-year-old.

During a heartfelt speech in front of the nation’s supporters, Álvaro Morata called Gavi up front and centre, before stating:

“Gavi, you are an important part of the team. You helped us fight to win with your personality. Without a doubt, you are the future of Spain.

“This Euro is also because of you. Thank you.”
