The Greens lost their second game under their new manager on Saturday against QPR.

Miron Muslic has brandished his team's performance at home to Queens Park Rangers as "terrible" as Plymouth Argyle were beaten 1-0 in Devon on Saturday.

Rayan Kolli's 65th minute strike proved to be the only goal of the day as the Pilgrims lost once again in the Championship, while those just above them had much more positive weekends.

Muslic's side are now five points off the relegation zone after 27 games, and the threat of relegation is now extremely high.

Plymouth had enjoyed an unbeaten start to 2025 ahead of the 1-0 defeat, drawing against both Stoke City and Oxford United in the league, while they won their first away game of the season in the FA Cup third round against Premier League Brentford just over a week ago.

Plymouth lambasted by Muslic as the gap to safety widens

It's been an incredibly difficult season for the Greens, and despite sacking Wayne Rooney at the end of 2024, wins in the Championship have still been hard to come by since.

Home Park has been a safe haven for Plymouth over the course of the campaign, but they offered very little against the R's, and suffered for it.

Speaking to Argyle TV after the game, Muslic explained his disappointment with the way his side played: "A terrible performance.

"We were far away from deserving anything today," he continued.

“The message to the team was that we have to realise the situation we are in - and we are in this situation together. The only way out of this is to compete, to challenge, to win duels and to show that we can be physical.

"Today we lacked that. It was a much-deserved victory for QPR, and that hurts.

"I said this to the team: the only guy who performed on a normal level today was Daniel - and that's a problem. If, in a home game, your best player on the pitch is consistently the goalkeeper, then we're doing something wrong.

"I said at half-time, if you want to have a chance to get out of this game and to earn something, we need to be competitive in duels first. It's not about tactics, it's not about style of play, it's not about the system - It's about the desire to win a duel and we lacked that today."

Plymouth have to start winning games quickly

Performances in recent weeks have improved, but Saturday was a step backwards, and Plymouth have to rectify their issues quickly.

They welcome Burnley to Home Park on Wednesday evening in what will be an incredibly tough game for the Pilgrims, with the Clarets currently involved in a four-way battle for automatic promotion at the top of the Championship.

Scott Parker's side do struggle with scoring goals, and their game focuses on staying resolute defensively before taking an opportunity in the final third when it arises. Plymouth will know that it is not their match to win, and they can put the pressure back on the visitors.

However, performance levels need to increase quickly as supporters will not settle for defeat without effort. Relegation seems to be a certainty without a drastic upturn in form, and if Argyle and Muslic are to survive in the Championship, points have to start coming sooner rather than later.
