The past few days have seen the situation between FC Barcelona and Marc-Andre ter Stegen continue to escalate, with tensions reaching a new high.
Following his surgery, the Barcelona goalkeeper refused to sign the required medical report that the club wanted to submit to La Liga, so that they could use his injury to register some of their new signings.
In light of this, the Catalans opened a disciplinary file against the 33-year-old and announced on Thursday that he would be stripped of the club captaincy ‘temporarily’.
Having maintained his silence throughout these ongoings, Ter Stegen has now finally released a statement on his social media, reacting to everything that has happened between him and Barcelona.
The German shot-stopper insisted that things have been said about him that were not true, and that is why he felt the need to clarify the matter.
Regarding his statement about the recovery period of three months, which he released even before surgery, Ter Stegen clarified that he did so after speaking with several experts while in co-ordination with the club and that it was only a minimum recovery time.

As for the registration issues, the 33-year-old makes it clear that the club had made the signings and renewals even before he had to undergo surgery and that the thought of his absence needing to register them was something he never considered.
“Therefore, at no point could I consider that my unfortunate circumstances with the new surgery I had to undergo would be necessary for the registration of other colleagues whom I greatly respect and look forward to share locker room with for many seasons.”
Ter Stegen went on to reiterate his love, passion, and commitment towards Barcelona and, as such, expressed hope that the situation can be resolved through further discussions.
Most importantly, the goalkeeper declared that he would be willing to sign the required authorisation for the medical report.
“I am fully willing to collaborate with the Club’s management to resolve this matter and to provide the requested authorisation.”
Concluding, he wrote: “A lot may have changed, but one thing never will: I love you, Culers!”
