Ten-man Torino dumped Milan out of the Coppa Italia in dramatic fashion after extra-time at San Siro on Wednesday night.

Milan shook up both their personnel and system, Stefano Pioli opting for a three-man defence with Charles De Ketelaere at the tip of the attack, but were almost behind on 12 minutes – only for Ciprian Tătărușanu to come up with a big parry to keep out Saša Lukić.

De Ketelaere stung the palms of the impressive Vanja Milinković-Savić with the final act of the half, driving an effort at goal from the edge of the area which the Serbian stopped.

With 20 minutes of the tie remaining, Toro’s task was made tougher when Koffi Djidji picked up his second yellow card and was sent off but they held out despite the disadvantage to force the second consecutive period of extra-time in the Coppa at San Siro this midweek, after Inter needed it to beat Parma on Tuesday.

And again the game would be decided in that time but this time it was the visitors who won it thanks to a lethal 114th minute counter-attack as they broke clear, allowing Brian Bayeye to set up Ndary Adopo and he kept his cool to steer in the winner.

It is Torino’s first win against the Rossoneri away from home since a Coppa Italia last 16 second leg clash in September 2000 and they have also done a double over them this season for the first time since 1969.

The Granata will now face Fiorentina or Sampdoria in the quarter-final.
