Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has sold the club’s “vision” to Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, according to a journalist.

The Red Devils have made Mount one of their top targets ahead of the summer transfer window and are hoping to sign him for a decent price with his Chelsea contract set to expire in 2024.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are reluctant to let their academy graduate leave for a reduced fee, however, despite the player’s contractual situation and the fact the Londoners need to sell several first-team players to balance the books and reduce the size of their bloated squad.

United are reportedly reluctant to play any more than £50million for the England international, with the Blues asking for closer to £70m.

This has made negotiations far from straightforward, though it is believed that Mount is open to the move and has already agreed personal terms with United.

The 24-year-old has been assured by Ten Hag that he will be “an important part” of his side should he move to Old Trafford, according to Dean Jones.

Speaking about Mount’s potential transfer to United, Jones insisted “there’s still a little way to go” in the talks between the two Premier League giants.

“Ultimately, Mason Mount wants to be playing football and wants to know his part at the club,” he told GiveMeSport. “He wants to be at a club heading somewhere good, and Manchester United is a place where that can happen.

“He has been told about Ten Hag’s vision and seen how far they’ve come over the course of the year. He believes that he is going to be an important part of that side if they can agree on a transfer.

“Obviously, at the moment, they are a little way apart in terms of what the two clubs value him at, so there’s still a little way to go.”

Meanwhile, United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is in ‘advanced talks’ to join Nottingham Forest permanently, according to talkSPORT.

Henderson spent last season on loan at the City Ground but has not played since mid-January due to injury.

This prompted Forest to bring in three-time Champions League winner Keylor Navas, who joined on a six-month loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain.

Manager Steve Cooper was clearly impressed by Henderson when he was available and the talkSPORT report suggests Ten Hag is open to letting the England shot-stopper leave.

The goalkeeper position is a huge area of uncertainty for the Red Devils, with David De Gea’s end-of-season form putting his spot in the starting XI into question.

Ten Hag is expected to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer but is also reportedly eager to extend De Gea’s contract, with his current terms expiring later this month.
