Manchester United have put in a £39.6 million bid for Ajax star Lisandro Martinez.

The central defender, who can also play left-back and central midfield, is hugely admired by Erik ten Hag.

The two worked together at Ajax, before ten Hag left for United this summer.

Martinez is also wanted by Arsenal, but is said to favour a reunion with ten Hag at United.

The coach believes Martinez has the mentality and competitiveness that will bring the necessary attitude to the United squad, per the Daily Star.

The Red Devils are hoping to improve on a dismal sixth placed finish in the Premier League last term.
