Speaking at a media appearance earlier today, La Liga president Javier Tebas praised Barcelona for the excellent start they have made to the season, naming them as strong candidates to win the league as well as the UEFA Champions League.

Barça have been on a roll since the season started, having won all six of their matches in La Liga, with the latest one coming on Sunday when they demolished Villarreal 5-1 away at Estadio de la Ceramica.

Their only defeat of the campaign thus far came in the UEFA Champions League opener last week against AS Monaco, although it had a lot to do with Eric Garcia’s early sending-off which altered the entire complexion of the game.

Despite having had to deal with injuries to several key players, Hansi Flick’s Barça are showing that they are the team to beat this season in Spain.

As such, Tebas has backed them as one of the favourites to go all the way not only in La Liga, but also the UEFA Champions League.

“Thank goodness they haven’t signed more players, because they would win games 10-0,” said Tebas, as quoted by COPE.

“Barça are contenders to win La Liga and the UEFA Champions League,” he added.

Considering how well things have been going for Barcelona on the pitch, it makes sense that Tebas sees them as candidates to grab the titles come the end of the season.

The Blaugrana, after all, will soon welcome back top players like Dani Olmo, Gavi and Frenkie de Jong from injury while the likes of Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen will also return in the coming months to further bolster the squad.

Given the level that they have shown thus far, one can only imagine how Barça will perform once they have their full squad available. Exciting times ahead!
