Manchester United injury news: Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford hand timely boost to Solskjaer ahead of Liverpool clash

According to Manchester Evening News (h/t Express), Manchester United have been handed a timely injury boost with both Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford spotted with the rest of the squad at the team hotel.

The Portuguese midfielder was a doubt leading up to the clash and could have been sidelined due to a knock he picked up in the Red Devils’ 3-2 win over Atalanta earlier this week. Rashford also suffered a dead leg injury and looked unlikely to start.

But as it seems, the duo may have shaken their injury troubles to hand a boost to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when it comes to team selection for the all-important derby against Liverpool. The Merseysiders are perhaps the toughest team to face right now.

The only unbeaten team in the Premier League so far, their record is unblemished in cup competitions as well. Man United would need their best men available for this gigantic task that lies ahead of them.

Timely injury boost from Bruno and Rashford

Jurgen Klopp’s men have made themselves comfortable at Old Trafford in recent seasons. The Norwegian manager must make sure that the Theatre of Dreams remains one of the most feared fortresses in Europe.

A win against Liverpool would be the first step towards ensuring. And apart from the three points, a victory here would also relieve pressure on Solskjaer who has found himself at the wrong end of the pitchfork by the United fans after an underwhelming run of results.

If Fernandes does start, it is likely that he occupies his traditional number 10 position. It remains to be seen if the English forward can make it to the starting XI, but if he does, he is most likely to play down the left flank.

Cristiano Ronaldo has made himself the undisputed target man at Man United ever since he signed from Juventus this summer. If Rashford and Bruno can start this game alongside him, there is no reason why the Red Devils can’t secure an important win in this derby.
