Manchester United team news: Three first-team stars missing from the travelling squad

According to the BBC, Manchester United have travelled to PSG without three of their first-team stars for their Champions League group stage opener of the season.

The three stars missing for the Red Devils are Edinson Cavani, skipper Harry Maguire and wonderkid Mason Greenwood.

It is the second game in a row that Greenwood has missed, following the 4-1 win away to Newcastle United at the weekend. Cavani, who was pictured training earlier, will have to wait a while to make his United debut.

United are also without Eric Bailly and Jesse Lingard. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is however unperturbed by the setback and believes he has enough options at his disposal.

“We are a little bit depleted but we have more than enough players.”

The Norwegian confirmed that Cavani needs a little more time in training before he can feature for the club. He was however vague in responding to the availability of the other players involved.

“We hope the players won’t be away for too long. Edinson needs a few more days’ training. Maybe we can think about the weekend. Hopefully Harry, Eric and Mason as well, but we’re not sure about that.”

While the absence of these players will not make our chances of victory easy, it is not beyond us to get a positive result.

In fact, the stage represents our last win in the competition back in March 2019. Marcus Rashford was the hero on the night as he converted a stoppage-time penalty to complete an unexpected comeback win.

Fans will hope for more of the same when we take on the Ligue 1 champions this week.

United have endured a mixed start to the season so far. While our form in the Premier League has been a mixed bag, we continue to win in the Carabao Cup.

With the European front now opening, United will have to ensure they are up to scratch or risk falling away to our rivals.
