The Magpies, competing in South Korea for the first time in the club's history, trailed at half-time at Suwon World Cup Stadium following Kim's composed finish.
Seung-soo Park, who joined United from K League 2 side Suwon Bluewings last week, was handed his Magpies debut in his native country in the closing stages while Magpies goalkeeper Max Thompson, who joined Newcastle's Academy as an 11-year-old, made his first-team bow for his boyhood club but Newcastle were condemned to a third successive pre-season defeat following losses against Celtic FC and Arsenal.
Eddie Howe made three changes to the side which suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat against Arsenal on Sunday as Tino Livramento, Lewis Miley and Emil Krafth were named in the starting XI ahead of the Magpies' first ever game in South Korea.
Newcastle went close to scoring in the opening minutes of the friendly as a free-flowing move resulted in Anthony Gordon volleying wide from Lewis Miley's dangerous cross inside the penalty area.
Playing in temperatures exceeding 30 degrees, Newcastle survived a dangerous attack minutes later as Dong-gyeong Lee's fizzing first-time effort from the edge of the box, after Alex Murphy was unable to clear the ball from inside his own penalty area, flashed wide of the right-hand post.
Joe Willock went close to netting his first Magpies goal since February as the central midfielder's intended cross took a deflection off Dong-hyun Kim but the alert Team K League goalkeeper, Hyeon-woo Jo, was able to hold the effort towards goal.
Anthony Elanga, who netted on his first United start in Sunday's five-goal affair against Arsenal, went close to netting in successive games after combining neatly with Swedish compatriot Emil Krafth on the right flank before the winger's fierce strike tipped over the crossbar by Jo.
In the 36th minute, Team K League took the lead through Kim as the Korean forward collected a dangerous pass inside the box and, after cutting inside, calmly placed the ball beyond Magpies goalkeeper Nick Pope.
William Osula almost drew United level after the restart as the Danish striker raced onto Elanga's pass but the 21-year-old's low drive at goal was blocked by the outstretched left leg of Jo.
Osula, who celebrates his 22nd birthday on Monday, created a further goalscoring opportunity after the hour mark after connecting with Elanga's excellent cross but his header was deflected out for a corner by Team K League substitute Young-gwon Kim.
Thompson, who spent the duration of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Chesterfield, made his first-team debut for the Magpies in the latter stages of the contest as well as Park, with the 18-year-old winger making his United bow in his native country following his transfer from K League 2 side Suwon Bluewings last week.
The South Korea under-20 international was almost allowed an opportunity to shoot towards goal in the final minutes after picking the ball up inside the box but the highly-rated youngster was swarmed by a group of Team K League defenders before the chance, ultimately, came to nothing.
