Tchouaméni: Can Champions League keep him at Monaco?

Present at a press conference on Wednesday, Aurélien Tchouaméni suggested that his chances of staying at the club next season - despite interest from many of Europe's biggest clubs - would improve greatly should Ligue 1 Uber Eats' form side ride their wave all the way to Champions League qualification.

Aurélien Tchouaméni is a hot property. With consistently stellar performances over the past few seasons, Monaco's newly capped France international has caught the eye of many of Europe's biggest clubs - Liverpool and Manchester United among them - and will likely be the subject of plenty of transfer interest come the end of the season. But the cool-headed youngster is in no rush.

'Finish the season well' "I think I am under contract until 2024, with an option until 2025. So we'll see what the future holds for me," said the in-demand midfield prodigy, 22, whose side travel to face LOSC on Friday night. "For now, we are really focused on the game in Lille, what happens afterwards is not the most important. We have to finish the season well and then everyone will go on vacation. We'll see who's there when the season starts again."

The thing is, Tchouaméni isn't the only one at Monaco to be performing well. In fact, the whole side have been in scintillating form in the past few months - Wissam Ben Yedder sits third on the scorers chart while Kevin Volland has rediscovered his scoring boots - and Philippe Clément's men have strung together a seven-match win streak that has them on the brink of Champions League qualification with three matches left to play.

Unfinished business

The lure of Europe's top club competition is a powerful thing for any footballer, and Tchouaméni admitted that, given how his side faltered at the first hurdle when they bowed out in Champions League qualifying at the beginning of the current campaign, he wouldn't mind taking another crack at European glory with AS Monaco. "It's true that the elimination [against Shakhtior Donetsk] in the preliminary round last season stuck in my craw," he conceded. "So playing in the Champions League with AS Monaco would not displease me." And it's a fair bet that it wouldn't displease Monaco fans either!
