Second place Rangers traveled to Livingston for a Scottish Premiership showdown at Alderstone Road.
Scorers: Tavernier (PEN) 24′, 78′, Roofe 85′
Rangers cruised to a sixth straight league victory, with two late goals warding off any Livingston comeback and ensure Michael Beal’s men keep their deficit at the top to nine points.
It was one way traffic for Rangers in the opening half of play.
Michael Beale’s side did everything but put the ball in the back of the net, but the Livingston rearguard was struggling to find their footing.
The Gers’ looked to find the lead they were pushing for inside 20 minutes when Fashion Sakala was played through before stabbing home, but the play was ruled out for a narrow offside.
They were finally rewarded for their pressure when Alfredo Morelos was taken down in the box, forcing the referee to award Rangers a penalty-kick.
The spot-kick was coolly dispatched by James Tavernier to collect a deserved lead for the Glasgow side.
Rangers pushed to stretch their lead throughout the second half, but were left frustrated as the final ball was consistently missing.
Tavernier found himself on the scoresheet once again in the final 15 minutes to double the Rangers lead late on, shortly before Kemar Roofe stabbed home Rangers’ third on the day to wrap up the three points.
The victory ensures Rangers’ deficit at the top of the Premiership table will remain at nine points for the time being.
