Despite missing out on a top-eight finish, AC Milan have performed better in the Champions League than in Serie A this season. Mauro Tassotti, the club’s former player and assistant manager, even believes the Rossoneri could go far in the competition.
Due to a defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in the final round, Milan just missed out on a top-eight finish and thus have to face Feyenoord in a play-off tie. They are still the favourites to go through and thus secure a ticket for the knockout phase, but everything could have been so much easier.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport this morning (see photo below), the Rossoneri’s former assistant manager and player Mauro Tassotti shared his thoughts on the remainder of the season. Having won five UCL trophies with the club, he certainly knows a thing or two about the competition.
“The team seems more suited to the Champions League where they have already beaten Real Madrid: they can have a good run and, if they get excited, go all the way. In Serie A, they must find the continuity that they have not had so far: they can only enter the top four with a streak of victories.”
Of course, by ‘going all the way’ Tassotti doesn’t necessarily mean reaching the final and winning it, but rather making it far in the competition. Some tough opponents would be in the way, though, so Sergio Conceicao would really have to get things together perfectly.
