Injuries to key players continue to hinder OGC Nice this season, however, there is a boost coming on the horizon with Tanguy Ndombélé (27) nearing a return.
Ndombélé, who has excelled since joining Nice this summer, following the termination of his contract with Tottenham Hotspur, has not featured for Le Gym since the 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain three weeks ago. Having been ruled out of the UEFA Europa League encounter against Real Sociedad just days earlier, he started against PSG, and completed almost the entirety of the match.
However, he has not been seen on the pitch since. The former Tottenham midfielder has been struggling with a hip issue, from which he has now almost recovered, Franck Haise revealed. “He worked really well this week with increasingly intense recovery sessions,” said the Nice manager.
Ndombélé won’t, however, be fit to face AS Monaco in the Derby de la Côte d’Azur on Sunday. Haise said that having the Frenchman on the bench was Les Monégasques was considered, however, he has opted against it. “We found that the risk-reward balance wasn’t favourable,” said Haise.
However, Ndombélé is expected to return to full training next week and a return against Stade Brestois next weekend is certainly a possibility.
