TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has put Billy Sharp on blast following his post-match interview following Sheffield United’s FA Cup fourth round replay versus Wrexham last night.

The Blades ran out 3-1 winners on the night but things took an interesting turn following the full-time whistle, with Blades skipper Sharp accusing the non-league side of disrespect in his interview with ITV.

Offering a very critical view on Sharp’s post-match comments live on air earlier today, Jordan told TalkSPORT: “Billy Sharp and Oli McBurnie and players of that nature have had lots to say on previous occasions when they get their skins rattled. I saw them last year at Nottingham Forest, there was a lot of altercations between them and the fans.”

“Wrexham are a club that’s getting a lot of interest because of the ownership model, so they would have come into this game with a lot of the back stories and Ryan Reynolds and whoever else and what Wrexham are going to do and how they are going to make an assault on football,”

“And I really don’t understand why Billy Sharp would feel the necessity to worry about a team that they should have beaten anyway.”

Jordan continued: “The Wrexham players have turned up to an FA Cup tie against a very significant football club in Sheffield United, who are likely to be promoted.

“They are going to buoyant, they are going to be full of themselves, they are going to have a lot of energy out of being very successful in their own league – second – and also taking a soon-to-be Premier League football club to a replay.

“Of course they are going to be full of themselves!

“Why would you be worried about that?

“You’re a 35, 36-year-old (Sharp is actually 37) that has been around the block – played in the Premier League – why in god’s name would you feel the need to have that outburst on television?”

The Verdict

I can definitely see both sides of the argument on this one.

In the heat of the moment, I can fully see how Billy Sharp could say what he did if he genuinely feels that he and his teammates have been disrespected.

However, at the same time, Jordan is perhaps right that Sharp should perhaps not mind what Wrexham are doing and saying too much because they are such a smaller and lower side than the Blades.

All in all, I do think everyone involved should move on from the comments, though, and focus on the cracking fifth round tie at Bramall Lane between Spurs and the Blades next month.
