Bayern Munich have opened talks with Chelsea over a move for France international Christopher Nkunku according to reports.

Nkunklu is one of a number of players Chelsea are looking to move on this summer, and Bayern had enquired back in January.

The 27-year-old holds the key to Chelsea being able to move forward to try and close a deal for Xavi Simons as they need to free up space in the squad.

Bayern open Nkunku talks with Chelsea

Nkunku is attracting interest from a number of clubs including Inter Milan, and he’s also thought to have interest from within the Premier League.

However, it appears Bayern have made their move, and talkSPORT have reported the German champions have opened talks with Chelsea over a move for Nkunku.

The report adds Bayern would prefer a loan with an option to buy, but given how Chelsea’s price has dropped a permanent transfer can’t be ruled out.

TalkSPORT state Chelsea could sanction an exit for less than £40m, having wanted more than that figure at the start of the window.

Nkunku has seen his time at Chelsea plagued by injury following his £52m move from RB Leipzig in 2023, and he managed just three Premier League goals last season.

Chelsea still working on Xavi Simons

Nkunku’s exit would allow Chelsea to push forward with trying to close a deal for Simons, and the Blues have been locked in negotiations with Leipzig for a number of weeks.

The possibility of Nkunku being involved as part of the deal was floated, but it’s thought the Frenchman isn’t keen on a return to Leipzig.

Leipzig are said to want a total package of £60m, whilst Chelsea are hoping to agree a fee of around £50m for the Dutch international.

It will be interesting to see how the deal develops, and there have been reports Manchester City could try to hijack a move for Simons.
