Talks soon: Newcastle United set to try signing former Premier League star | OneFootball

Newcastle United are reportedly set to hold talks over a potential transfer move for Juventus midfielder and former Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz.

The Brazil international shone during his time at Villa Park, but has struggled to find his feet since moving to Juve last summer.

It now seems that Luiz could be on the move again this year, with TVPlay reporting that Juventus could be open to discussing a swap deal involving Magpies star Sandro Tonali.

Luiz has had a bit of an up-and-down career, having previously flopped at Manchester City as a youngster, leaving the club without ever making an impact there.

Luiz then became a star name at Villa, but has once again failed to make that step up to a bigger club.

Newcastle could do well, however, to try bringing Luiz back to the Premier League as they look to strengthen ahead of next season.

Some fans might be concerned about the 26-year-old as a target after his dip in form in Serie A, but he’s shown what a top performer he can be in the Premier League.

Newcastle would also surely want someone of his calibre to come in if they ended up losing a key player like Tonali in midfield.

Could other clubs get involved if Douglas Luiz is available?

There must be a fair few Villa fans who regret that Luiz was sold, so could their club be in the mix to get him back?

For now, Newcastle are being the most strongly linked, but this will surely be one to keep an eye on in the weeks and months ahead.

It’s hard to imagine NUFC getting a free run at such a top player if he is indeed available on the market this summer.
