Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund are to begin talks over the future of Ansgar Knauff with the players loan expiring in the summer, reports Bild.
A decision between the two will likely be made by March or possibly April. Knauff wishes to see a clear path from both clubs and will make his decision depending on which path he prefers. A positive for Frankfurt is sporting director Markus Krösche has a good relationship with the player.
Dortmund would like the 21-year-old to return to the club in the summer however, in January they already signed a player that has a similar profile to Knauff in Julian Ryerson.
While Frankfurt are not willing to pay the current price of €10 million for Knauff as in the summer he will have a year left on his contract. The 21-year-old has also attracted interest from England but it is likely to be a two horse race between Frankfurt and Dortmund
Knauff did not play at the weekend in Frankfurt’s 3-0 win against Hertha Berlin as Oliver Glasner opted for new signing Philipp Max and Aurélio Buta as Frankfurt’s attacking players whereas before Knauff had been a starter.
