The Manchester United hierarchy has numerous pivotal decisions to make across all squads as we approach the culmination of the 2023/2024 campaign.

Erik ten Hag’s men have just one game remaining before bidding the current term farewell and, depending on how they fare in Saturday’s FA Cup final, it’s a season that the Old Trafford faithful will be glad to see the back of.

Raphael Varane confirmed last week that he would be departing the club upon the expiration of his contract next month, while Anthony Martial also shared a heartfelt goodbye with Old Trafford in United’s final home game last week.

For the women, one significant and ongoing order of business is determining Mary Earps’ future, with the England star’s deal also set to expire this summer.

United rebuffed a world-record offer for a goalkeeper from Arsenal last year in favour of keeping hold of the shot-stopper, yet now risk losing her for nothing in what could be a complete replication of both Alessia Russo and Ona Battle’s exits after the two world-class talents left as free agents in 2023.

The Reds reigned victorious in the Adobe FA Cup final with a convincing 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley last week but followed it up with a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of WSL champions Chelsea over the weekend, consequently ending the campaign in fifth place.

Earps addresses contract speculation

Speaking to Sky Sports regarding her future, Earps revealed: “The honest reality is that conversations are still ongoing. I’ve been clear I don’t want to make an emotional decision.

“The beginning of the season was really tough, I felt really upset about things that were being said about me and things that came out that weren’t true. I’ve tried to be professional, keep my head down, work hard, [and] get on with my job, and that’s been hard. I’ve been a punching bag at times.”

“I’ve tried to shoulder the responsibility of the team and the performance and where we fell short this season,” she continued. “That’s what you should do as a leader, and as a more experienced player, you have to stand up in those moments.

“I know I’ve given my heart and soul for the whole season. It’s a tough situation. I’ve asked the club for some confirmation on what they’re trying to achieve, and when I have those answers, I’ll be able to make a decision. It’s up to the club.”
