Loan player Josip Stanisic was supposed to return to FC Bayern for the new season. But now his future seems uncertain.

Initially, Josip Stanisic’s loan from FC Bayern to Bayer Leverkusen was viewed critically. But for the Croatian international, his year with the Werkself has already paid off in full: Stanisic would return to Munich as German champion, and he also has a chance of winning the DFB Cup and the Europa League with Leverkusen.

However, according to BILD, talks are currently underway regarding the 24-year-old’s future. According to the report, Stanisic’s advisor Dieter Hoeneß was in Munich last Friday, possibly to discuss his client’s future with the club’s management.

According to the report, Leverkusen would like to sign Stanisic permanently, although his contract does not include an option to buy. According to BILD, the defender’s future at Bayern will depend on what prospects the new coach gives him and how he plans with him. A decision is therefore expected towards the end of the season.

Stanisic became a hero in Bayer’s last-minute draw at Borussia Dortmund on Sunday when his last-minute goal ensured that Leverkusen’s unbeaten run continued.

After the game, Stanisic himself spoke to Sky about his return to Bayern: „I’m not involved in the plans now, but I’ve already had a few conversations,“ he revealed: „I’ve already been rumoured to be a permanent fixture.“

Stanisic: „My head is still here“

At the moment, however, Stanisic wants to continue focussing fully on the current season with Bayer Leverkusen: „My head is still here and it will stay that way until the end of the season,“ he explained.

The defensive specialist’s contract with the German record champions runs until 2026. Stanisic was trained in Munich’s youth academy. He joined FCB at the age of 17. He started playing football at Munich club SC Perlach, then moved to the youth team of TSV 1860 Munich and from there to SC Fürstenfeldbruck before joining Bayern. Stanisic has already played 17 international matches for the Croatian national team.

His loan to Leverkusen was initially viewed critically because Bayern had a lot of defensive absentees and Stanisic did not get much playing time at Leverkusen at the start of the season. However, he has since played 31 competitive matches for coach Xabi Alonso’s team, scoring two goals and providing four assists.
