Fabrizio Romano reports that Chido Martin Obi has accepted Manchester United’s proposal, leaving Arsenal after four years with the Gunners’ academy.

AllNigeriaSoccer, a reliable outlet for Arsenal youth news, had reported earlier in the day that Arsenal were not willing to offer Martin Obi more than £15,000-per-week for his professional deal, to be signed when he turns 17 in November.

But ANS claim Manchester United were happy to double the wages Arsenal were offering.

According to the same outlet, Martin Obi has now given his green light to Manchester United, expecting to agree personal terms within the next 24 hours.

As with Arsenal, Manchester United are offering an initial scholarship deal to be upgraded to a professional contract when the player turns 17.

The Daily Mail give a mixed picture of Martin Obi’s wage situation, with Arsenal sources claiming money was the dealbreaker behind his exit, whilst the player’s camp claim the move wasn’t financially motivated.

Fabrizio Romano claims the player had larger offers from Germany, though this seems very unlikely. German clubs historically offer smaller amounts than Premier League outfits but with better first-team pathways.

Regardless of the truth of Martin Obi’s exit, with all sides seemingly trying to put their own spin on it, the reality is that he’s leaving.

The player has already confirmed as much on social media, saying: “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone at Arsenal for the past four years.

“The experiences and growth I’ve achieved here have been truly invaluable. A special thanks to the coaches, staff, and teammates at Hale End. The memories made will always be remembered.

“Thank you once again for this journey. I wish everyone continued success and all the best for the future.”
