An interesting development in the race to become the next manager of La Liga giants Barcelona has been revealed on Saturday.

This comes amid confirmation that a leading target on the part of the Blaugrana brass was in attendance to watch one of his chief competitors for the post put his side through their matchday paces earlier today.

The tacticians in question? Hansi Flick, and Roberto De Zerbi.

Flick, and De Zerbi, have of course been widely tipped as the two leading candidates to replace Xavi in the dugout in Catalunya’s capital this summer.

The latter is favoured for his fluid brand of football, but the considerable release clause in his contract with Brighton & Hove Albion marks a major obstacle in any potential deal for Barcelona.

In turn, it will no doubt come as a source of interest for not only Joan Laporta and the board at the Camp Nou, but also Barca’s fans, to hear that Hansi Flick was in attendance at Brighton’s latest outing on Saturday afternoon.

As confirmed by Diario Sport, amongst other outlets, German tactician Flick was in the stands at Craven Cottage, as Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls were put to the sword by three goals to nil by Fulham in the Premier League.

The purpose of his visit, at present, remains unclear, though it is not out of the question that the former Bayern Munich boss travelled to London to essentially ‘scout out the competition’ for the manager’s post at Barcelona.
