Manchester United told to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and hire former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte

Speaking on TalkSPORT (h/t Metro), former Aston Villa striker, Gabriel Agbonlahor, urged Manchester United to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and replace him with Antonio Conte.

The Norwegian manager has come under heat after a dreadful run which has seen his side lose thrice in their last four games, the latest of which came in an embarrassing defeat at home to Aston Villa this Saturday.

One of the biggest talking points in that game was when Bruno Fernandes skied a penalty in added time with the scoreline at 0-1 and Cristiano Ronaldo still on the pitch.

According to Agbonlahor, a more experienced and able manager would have laid down the law and put Ronaldo on spot-kick duty, even if it meant hurting Bruno’s feelings.

Conte in, Ole out?

“I just don’t think Ole’s the man, if that was [Antonio] Conte he’d be like okay Ronaldo is on the penalty, you haven’t got a if you don’t like it Fernandes come and sit with me, Ole doesn’t have that pull.”

And the former Premier League striker cited the example of Chelsea and urged the United board to sack Solskjaer and bring in a serial winner such as Antonio Conte. The Italian, who has won the Premier League with Chelsea, also led Inter Milan to their first Scudetto in 11 years last season.

“If I was Manchester United now, Chelsea did it with Lampard, got rid of a club legend and brought in Tuchel and look what happened. Man United need to now take Ole out of it, give him a job in the board, bring in Conte and he will get the best out of these players.”

Agbonlahor is not entirely wrong in his assessment. The Norwegian is without a trophy since he joined as a manager and the clock seems to be running extra fast for him this season.

With the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, David de Gea, and Paul Pogba in his side, fans are expecting silverware from the former Cardiff City boss. If that doesn’t happen, then Conte may well be the ideal replacement granted future negotiations take place with the ex-Chelsea boss.
