Manchester United sent a number of their young players out on loan during the summer in order to gain first-team experience.

The Red Devils have an ilk of young players at the club hoping to make the grade at Old Trafford, with loan moves to the EFL materialising.

Here, we take a look at a few of the players and check how they are getting on away from the Premier League giants…

Tahith Chong

Having previously had loan spells with Werder Bremen and Club Brugge, Chong joined Birmingham City on loan in the summer.

The winger has already shown glimpses of his ability at St. Andrew’s, making 10 Championship appearances and registering two assists.

He is yet to score for Blues, but his performances have generally been really impressive, and when he’s at his best, he has already proven to be one of the most dangerous wingers in the division.

James Garner

Garner, meanwhile, left Old Trafford having signed a new deal until 2024 in the summer.

Having spent the second half of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, the midfielder returned to the City Ground for a second time.

Garner has since made seven appearances for the Reds, but his performance levels haven’t quite been there compared to last season.

He was put on the bench last time out against Birmingham, which Forest fans hope will be a turning point for the 20-year-old.

Another player who was sent on loan to the Championship was Bernard.

It was some leap for the defender, too, having spent last season in League Two with Salford City and making 30 appearances for the Ammies.

This season, the centre-half has made eight appearances for the Tigers with seven of those coming in the Championship.

It has been a disappointing start to the season for Hull, and he will be hoping to help turn their fortunes around.

Rounding off our list is Ethan Laird, who like the other three players, moved to the Championship with Swansea City.

Laird reunited with former boss Russell Martin, who he spent last season on loan at MK Dons with in League One.

The full-back has made nine appearances for the Swans, registering one assist and seven times in the league.
