Go Ahead Eagles striker Sylla Sow revealed the heartwarming reason behind his celebration after scoring the equaliser against FC Utrecht, he said to ESPN.
The former Sheffield Wednesday striker, 26, revealed his wife is pregnant and revealed his celebration was planned ahead of the game if he was lucky – and credits a friend who texted about a dream he had the night before the match.
“I wanted to show everyone that my wife is pregnant. I thought: if I score, I want to put the ball under my shirt. A friend of mine texted me this morning: ‘I dreamed that you were going to score.’ Dreams come true,” he said.
As happy as Sow was with his goal, he still had doubts after the late goal as it went through the VAR process.
“At first I thought: shit, this one is going to be rejected. The fact that the goal did go through, only makes the joy greater. Yet he is not only grateful to himself.
“Goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange kept the team going with a number of saves. “It’s not the first time, he saves us very often. He was hit once on the head, once on the shoulder.”
The result now means Go Ahead Eagles have extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches and are 11th in the Eredivisie table despite starting the season on a five-match winless run.
