Switzerland coach Murat Yakin is happy to see Yann Sommer finding a safe haven at Inter Milan after enduring tough times at Bayern Munich.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper was hellbent on completing a summer switch from Bavaria to Milano.

He eventually got his wish, arriving at Appiano Gentile as a replacement for Andre Onana who joined Man United.

The Swiss custodian has been flawless thus far, collecting three clean sheets in as many official appearances for the Nerazzurri.

Last January, Sommer joined Bayern Munich to serve in the absence of the injured Manuel Neuer.

His national team manager has now revealed that the custodian had endured tough times due to the circumstances that occurred at the Bavarian club.

“I know Yann very well, I coached him at Basel,” said Yakin in an interview with Sport1 via FcInterNews.

“He is a player who needs trust to be able to give 100%. He didn’t deserve such treatment. He became the victim of a certain mechanism that only occurs at Bayern.

“When he arrived to the national team, I told him that it wasn’t the Yann that I know.

“At Bayern, he was under extreme pressure. That’s where he showed how strong he is. We resolved the matter with our goalkeeping coach.”

“In Bavaria, he felt the support from a sporting point of view, but then something was missing.

“The criticism hurt him, but he never complained. The Bayern stint was not easy for Yann. But he worked hard nevertheless.”

Finally, Yakin feels that Inter is the right place for Sommer at this stage of his career.

“As long as he has the opportunity to play abroad, he should continue to do so. Where should he play in Switzerland?

“He’s not even thinking about quitting. Yann still has a lot to give. Inter is the right club for him.”
