Veteran goalkeeper Yann Sommer has hailed the atmosphere at Inter Milan ahead of tonight’s highly expected match against Arsenal.
During his pre-game talk with House Organ via FCInterNews, the former Switzerland international underlined a healthy environment at Giuseppe Meazza.
Yann Sommer joined Inter from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 to replace Andre Onana, who left for Manchester United.
During his first season at Meazza, the 35-year-old lifted the Scudetto.
“A moment I will remember for all my life,” Sommer described the title celebration.
“We celebrated after a very tough and beautiful season in which we really played strong.”
He also named an Inter legend he’d like to face on the pitch.
“There are several, but I say Zanetti because he is an inspiration for young people, a player of great personality,” Sommer said.
“Together with him, I would challenge Ronaldo the Phenomenon.”
“For me, Inter is a special team,” Sommer admitted. “The first year with these fans and with what we did was fantastic.
“We are a strong group. We are all great professionals, but we have a lot of fun together.
“In my role from the back, I see all the situations.
“I try to help my teammates and give my best, both in saves and in the construction of the game.”
Sommer also discussed how he prepares for the matches.
“The adrenaline comes by itself,” he said.
“Before going on the field I usually do my exercises and organize my preparation to be ready and focused.
“In training, I like to challenge Lautaro.
“For a goalkeeper, it’s always nice to challenge players like him and face strikers like ours.”
Sommer says his father was the reason he fell in love with football.
“My dad was a goalkeeper, and when I was little at home, I always looked at his gloves,” he confessed.
“I never thought much about it. I’ve always loved football, playing with my friends and being in goal.
“My father was an inspiration in football and in life.
“Besides him, I was struck by many players, those who leave everything on the field, who play for pure passion.
“Playing in a great club like Inter is certainly something that makes me proud and has already made me experience special moments.”
