The 44-year-old has agreed to a two-and-a-half-year deal to take the reins of the first team squad.

This will be the Englishman’s first role as senior manager having worked previously at youth level and as an assistant to Frank Lampard at Derby County and Chelsea.

Morris is taking over a team that currently sits 6th in the League Two table, with the clear ambition of gaining promotion to the third tier this campaign.

A seven-point gap to the automatic places means the team will be pushing for a top seven finish while trying to keep pace with the top three.

Swindon’s technical director, Sandro Di Michele, has revealed his excitement at the arrival of Morris as manager.

“To get a head coach with Jody’s calibre is a real statement of intent from us here at the football club,” said Di Michele, via the club’s official website.

“His coaching CV reads really well and he’s worked at the very top level, so to have someone with that calibre and experience here creates an incredible opportunity for us.

“He’s highly skilled in developing some of the very best young talent in the country, which is integral to our strategy and what we are trying to achieve.”

His first home game in charge will come on 11 February when Swindon host Doncaster Rovers.

The Verdict

Morris is a highly-rated coach and has received a lot of plaudits for his work throughout his career.

The 44-year-old may be most known for working alongside Lampard as his assistant, but he has achieved a lot in his own right at youth level as well.

This is an exciting appointment and could be a real coup for the club in their pursuit of promotion.

Morris will be aiming to hit the ground running with a good start to life at the club in order to maintain the team’s push for a top seven finish.
