Valentina Giacinti gave Italy the lead after 12 minutes, Caroline Seger equalising from the penalty spot in the final twenty.

Sweden converted all their penalties, goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl scoring their last before Italy’s Annamaria Serturini failed to find the net.
