Swansea City should make an ambitious loan move for Brentford's Gustavo Nunes in January

The January transfer window is just around the corner, and Luke Williams will have started his planning as he looks to bolster Swansea's squad ahead of an important second part to the season.

Williams has done an outstanding job with the Swans this season, and they currently sit in ninth place, punching above their weight when you consider their budget and squad size, and they arguably deserve to be higher too.

Swansea have dominated certain games but have been able to come away with all three points after spurned chances, and a bit of added attacking firepower wouldn't go amiss when the transfer window opens.

Despite a change in ownership, Swansea won't be able to splash the cash in January, so perhaps loan moves could be on the cards, and they should look to Premier League side Brentford for a potential attacking addition.

Swansea City should target a loan move for Brentford's Gustavo Nunes in January

Gustavo Nunes won't be a household name to most football fans in this country, but Thomas Frank forked out a fee in excess of £10million to bring him to Brentford in the summer from Gremio, putting pen-to-paper on a six-year deal.

The 19-year-old Brazilian is clearly seen as one for the future, hence the long-term deal, and is yet to play a first-team game for the Bees, so perhaps a loan move in January could do him good.

Given that Brentford paid over £10million for him a couple of months ago, it may seem like an ambitious move for Swansea, but a Championship loan spell could give him a taste of English football for the first time, and would be beneficial as he looks to break into Frank's team in coming seasons.

Swansea need a winger so Nunes would be a suitable addition, and with minutes set to be at a premium for the Brazilian in West London, they should throw their hat into the ring for the youngster.

Nunes played for the Bees in a friendly against Cardiff City last month during the international break, reportedly impressing and sitting amongst the reserves or playing for their B team for the rest of the campaign won't do him much good.

The 19-year-old impressed for Gremio in the Brazilian top-flight last season, making 40 appearances in total, scoring seven goals and registering four assists, so he should have no problem with adapting to the Championship.

There are no doubts about his ability, but a loan in the Championship could help toughen him up and get him used to English football, and Swansea should make an ambitious move for him.

There have been concerns over Nunes' fitness, and Frank recently revealed that the Bees won't rush the youngster back after suffering a stress fracture in his back, so that could well be a potential sticking point with a return date unclear.

However, Brentford seem to have a good relationship with Swansea when it comes to loaning players, sending Fin Stevens on loan to SA1 two seasons ago, before sending Myles Peart-Harris to the club this year, and he's played regularly, which will please Frank and shows that the Swansea.com Stadium is a suitable location for Nunes.

Swansea City should use Ronald, Goncalo Franco reasoning to sign Gustavo Nunes

Swansea already have one Brazilian on their books in the form of Ronald, while they also have Portuguese midfielder Goncalo Franco, and the Portuguese-speaking pair have formed a close friendship, which Swansea should use to their advantage to sign Nunes.

Coming from Brazil, Nunes will speak Portuguese, and the fact there are two other players at the club he is able to speak to and form friendships with could make Swansea an attractive club for Brentford to loan him to.

Swansea already have a Portuguese translator working at the club, meaning that they'd be able to accommodate Nunes and make him feel at home, which should give them an advantage over other Championship clubs.

Having a Portuguese translator at the club along with other Portuguese-speaking players at the club may sound irrelevant, but clubs do their due diligence before sending a player out on loan somewhere, and Brentford will want somewhere where Nunes will fit in.

Nunes would certainly fit in at Swansea with the Portuguese-speaking players, and it's a move which could well make sense for all parties.

Of course, it remains to be seen what Brentford do with Nunes come January, but if he's available on loan, Swansea should be at the front of the queue for the 19-year-old.
