Paul Anderson recently announced his retirement after a career which saw him feature for a number of EFL clubs

After a long senior career which started with a first-team debut at Swansea City in 2007 and spanned 17 years, Paul Anderson has recently announced his retirement.

The Liverpool academy product spent time at nine different EFL clubs throughout his career, but it's Swansea, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich where Anderson really made an impact and showed what he was capable of as a tricky winger.

Having spent the last three years playing for United Counties League Premier Division North side Melton Town, Anderson has become a bit of a forgotten man, but the three aforementioned clubs will still have fond memories of the winger.

On the books at Liverpool, the youngster was loaned to Swansea City ahead of the 2007/08 season to gain some first-team experience, and it's fair to say that he made a big impact in south Wales.

The move to Swansea was Anderson's first taste of senior football, and he impressed, scoring ten goals and registering nine assists in 41 games, helping the Swans win the League One title and seal a return to the Championship after a 24-year absence.

The youngster also won the club's Young Player of the Year award, and Roberto Martinez was keen to reunite with him for the club's 2008/09 campaign, but it never materialised.

Instead, he joined Nottingham Forest on loan for the season, before joining permanently in the summer of 2009.

He made 131 appearances for Forest, more than he made for any other club, and he scored 11 times, registering 17 assists, helping the club secure their status as a solid Championship club following their promotion from League One in 2008.

After departing the City Ground in the summer of 2012, a season with Bristol City followed where he made 30 appearances, but he was on the move again the following summer, moving to Ipswich Town, and it was a move that proved successful.

Anderson's move to Portman Road in the summer of 2013 saw Jay Emmanuel-Thomas move in the opposite direction, and the winger had some memorable moments during his time with the Tractor Boys.

The 2013/14 season saw Mick McCarthy's side finish ninth in the Championship table, a respectable return, and Anderson played 33 times, scoring five goals and registering one assist, but the best was yet to come.

The following season saw the Tractor Boys sneak into the play-offs, finishing sixth, and whilst Anderson may not have had the best of seasons in front of goal, he etched himself into the Ipswich Town history books when he scored for the club against bitter rivals Norwich City in the play-off semi-final.

It meant the first-leg finished 1-1 and gave his side a chance of making it to the final, but unfortunately his side were defeated in the second-leg, and missed out on promotion to the top-flight.

The goal against the Canaries was one of Anderson's two goals during the 2014/15 season, but a goal against Norwich in a game of that magnitude will always be enough to leave supporters with fond memories of the winger.

He departed Portman Road that summer when he joined Bradford City, and further EFL spells with Northampton, Mansfield and Plymouth Argyle followed before dropping down to play for local side Melton Town in 2021.
