Swansea City defender Ryan Manning has told the club’s official website that it is important that his side are either in or around the play-offs after the Christmas period has ended.
At the time of writing, the Swans currently occupy 14th place in the Sky Bet Championship and are on a poor recent run of form after being on the wrong end of results against the likes of Reading and Middlesbrough recently.
This has seen Russell Martin’s side fall seven points behind in the race for a top six spot, which means they will now be even more keen to set things right over the coming matches that they have ahead.
Now Manning has made the following claim when speaking about the club’s ambitions of making the play-offs come the end of the season:
“Once Christmas is over, the league table starts to settle quite a bit. It’s an important time to be either in the play-offs or within touching distance.”
Swansea of course know all about just how harsh the play-offs can be at this level, having fallen short at both the semi and final stage in recent seasons under their ex-manager Steve Cooper.
Meanwhile the South Wales side are set to return to league action this weekend against Cooper, as he visits the Swansea.com Stadium with his new side, Nottingham Forest.
The Verdict
It’s fair to say that there is no need for anyone at Swansea to be pushing the panic button after a couple of defeats.
The season is still very much in it’s formative stages and the key now will be to go on a run and perform well over the festive period before heading into the new year.
Seven points isn’t a big gap at all for the Swans to make up and as a result of this, Martin will certainly be keen to stress exactly that to his players.
