Swansea City are said to have held talks with striker Thomas Henry over a potential summer move to the Liberty Stadium, as per a recent report by Belgian publication Het Nieuwsblad.

The 26-year-old has been on the Welsh club’s radar for a couple of weeks now and it appears that they have firmed up their interest, with the report stating that the two parties have been in talks.

Henry is said to want to try something different after enjoying a prolific season with OH Leuven on the continent and is seemingly open to the idea of moving to the Sky Bet Championship.

Originally born in France, Henry notched up 21 goals last season in the Belgian first division and also laid on five assists for him teammates.

Leuven are said to not be in a rush to sell the player to the Swans, as they are waiting to see if any other offers come forward from other clubs for the player.

Quiz: Did each of these 20 midfielders ever score a goal for Swansea City?

Henry currently has two years remaining on his contract and will cost Swansea a fee this summer if they bring him to Wales.

The Verdict

Signing Henry this summer would be a big statement of intent from Swansea as they would be bringing in a player who is a proven goal scorer.

The foreign market presents some much cheaper alternatives than the domestic one and you can fully understand why the Swans are looking at the French marksman.

He is now into his prime years and ideally will continue to hit the same levels in terms of goal scoring as he did in the campaign just gone.

It’s clear that other clubs will also be interested, so City will be keen to get a deal thrashed out with Leuven at the earliest opportunity as they look to bring in someone who could make the world of difference for them next season.
