Manchester City have beaten Arsenal and Aston Villa to the signing of young Norway star Sverre Nypan.

According to The Athletic, City are now expected to beat a host of interested clubs to the Rosenborg teenager, who will move to the Eithad Stadium in a record deal for a player from the Norwegian league.

Standard Sport reported in January that the Gunners were land 18-year-old Nypan, who has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Europe.

Nypan made his debut for Rosenborg in 2022 aged just 15 and has been scouted by several top European sides since then.

The Athletic report that Arsenal tried and failed to persuade the teenager to sign, and then Villa flew a delegation to Norway but also left empty-handed.

Villa’s president of football operations, Monchi, was spotted at a Rosenborg league match in April, and Nypan’s father, Arne, confirmed a meeting took place.

Standard Sport reported at the time that both player and his father decided to delay the decision over his next club until the summer as they did not want to rush the process.

And now City have reportedly won the race, and are expected to send Nypan out on loan to continue his development. La Liga side Girona — part of the City Football Group (CFG) - have been credited with interest.
