There has been sad news for the world of football today with storied manager Sven-Goran Eriksson passing away at the of 76. The news was confirmed by the family of Sven-Goran Eriksson via a statement on svengoraneriksson.com earlier today.

The storied managerial career of Eriksson saw him manage clubs all across Europe and the globe. He rose to prominence as a manager with a successful spell in charge of Lazio from 1997-2001. That success saw him named as the first overseas manager for England. He took charge of England from 2001-2006. From a Manchester City point of view Sven-Goran Eriksson took charge of the club for the 2007/8 season. While he didn’t see out his three year deal with the club the 2007/8 season is looked back on fondly by Manchester City fans. Eriksson guided City to two famous derby victories over Manchester United. But what he also provided Manchester City fans with was hope. In an era before Sheikh Mansour’s takeover in 2008 Eriksson’s team played in a manner that made City fans proud.
