The Eredivisie has announced that Saturday’s suspended match between RKC Waalwijk and Ajax will be resumed from the 84th minute on 6 December.

Ajax were leading 3-2 heading into the final minutes of the game when Waalwijk goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen suffered a serious head injury.

Due to the traumatic nature of Vaessen’s condition, it was decided that play could not continue and the match was suspended in the 84th minute.

Play will now resume with the clock starting at 84 minutes on Wednesday 6 December at 8pm local time, with supporters allowed in to watch the final minutes of play.

The Eredivisie say they wanted to complete the match before 6 December, but it was unfortunately not possible to find an earlier date in the calendar.

Vaessen was knocked unconscious after colliding with Ajax striker Brian Brobbey, but the goalkeeper regained consciousness while being taken off on a stretcher.

Waalwijk confirmed in an update on Sunday that the 28-year-old is continuing his recovery.
