Real Madrid refuse to cool down their hunt for a new striker despite Karim Benzema’s cryptic words yesterday. The prolific goalscorer’s departure is far from completion, but Los Blancos prefer to err on the side of caution.
Tomas Gonzalez Martin brings to the fore some of the candidates best placed to join Carlo Ancelotti’s squad this summer. One of the names on the aforementioned list is of Kai Havertz.
A source close to Real Madrid CEO Jose Angel Sanchez has reportedly confirmed the news of the club’s interest in the German. Havertz would be delighted to wear the white colours next season, and negotiations between Real Madrid and Chelsea are yet to begin.
The 23-year-old’s name comes as a surprise inclusion on the Merengues’ list, considering that he has not particularly performed well during his Chelsea stint.
The German has failed to hit the ten-goal mark in any of his three seasons in the Premier League, netting four, eight, and most recently, seven across his tenure so far.
The youngster’s contract at Chelsea runs until the summer of 2025, and it is safe to say that he will not come cheap. However, the London-based side are under pressure to sell players after last summer’s spending spree and could be open to bargaining.
In 35 Premier League appearances for the Blues, Havertz has scored seven goals and assisted one. He averages 1.1 key passes per game and created five big chances.
His speculated move to Santiago Bernabeu could be on a permanent transfer or a loan. In either case, he would be a solid option for Ancelotti next season, especially given Marco Asensio’s near-confirmed departure and the urgent need for a new signing.
Havertz, too, would love to join Real Madrid, and will not pass up on the chance should los blancos come calling.
