Yesterday, Friday, it was announced that Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona have come to an agreement. The Catalans are planning to give their new coach a special gift: Flick could soon see an old companion from his time at Bayern at his side.

According to a report in the Spanish newspaper AS, FC Barcelona are actively reorganising their coaching staff for new head coach Hansi Flick. The aim is to find a liaison person who can convey the philosophy and traditions of the renowned club to Flick.

The first choice for the role of assistant is rumoured to be Thiago Alcántara, who has already been contacted by FC Barcelona to discuss his future plans. However, Thiago, once a midfielder at FC Bayern and trained at FC Barcelona’s famous youth academy La Masia, is cautious.

Martínez is also a candidate

AS reports that although Thiago has left Liverpool FC, he is not yet ready to end his active career. He is still looking for options to continue his career at a new club. Should Thiago not be available, Barcelona are already looking at alternatives, according to the report. Javi Martínez, another ex-Bayer, is rumoured to be a possible candidate, although he never played for Barcelona.

Marc Bartra and Ivan Rakitic are also on the list of potential assistant coaches. Both have extensive experience at Barcelona and were also active in the Bundesliga. Bartra played for BVB from 2016 to 2018, while Rakitic spent four years at Schalke 04.

Unlike Thiago, Bartra and Rakitic could imagine ending their playing careers in the summer and would therefore potentially be open to a new role alongside Flick.
