Suriname, Mexico out to turn series around in quarterfinals second leg | OneFootball

MIAMI - The 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League continues Tuesday with second leg encounters in the quarterfinals in League A, which will decide berths to both the 2025 CNL Finals and 2025 Gold Cup.

Canada will host Suriname in the second leg of their series after claiming a 1-nil victory in the first leg in Paramaribo, Suriname. The other match of the day presents Mexico striving for a comeback as it hosts Honduras after a 2-0 home win for Los Catrachos in the first leg.

The aggregate score winner will advance to the 2025 Concacaf Nations League Finals and 2025 Gold Cup. Away goals will serve as the first tiebreaker. If necessary, extra time and penalties will be played to define a winner.

Canada vs. Suriname

Canada hosts Suriname in the second leg of their series at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada.

The Reds are in the lead thanks to a late winner from Junior Hoillet in the first leg. Jonathan David provided the assist for the game-winner. Canada seeks a return to the CNL Finals after finishing runners-up in the 2022/23 edition.

Suriname will take the pitch with the hopes of turning the series around and making further history this campaign with what would be its first CNL Finals appearance. Gleofilo Vlijter led Suriname’s attack in the first leg with two shots, including a header in the 59’ that hit the crossbar.

The encounter will be the second CNL matchup and fourth all-time meeting between the sides. Canada leads the series with three wins.

Mexico vs. Honduras

Mexico will host Honduras in the second leg of their series at the Estadio Nemesio Díez in Toluca, Mexico.

Mexico will aim for a comeback after a 2-nil defeat in the first leg. The likes of Raúl Jiménez, Ángel Sepúlveda, and Henry Martín will be looked to for goals as Mexico seeks to secure a fourth CNL Finals participation.

Luis Palma scored a brace to lead Honduras to victory in the first leg. Goalkeeper Endrick Menjívar also had a stellar showing, keeping a clean sheet while contributing four saves.

The teams will meet for the fourth time in CNL action following the two quarterfinal fixtures in the 2023/24 edition. They’ll meet for the 47th time overall. Mexico leads the all-time series with 28 wins to nine for Honduras, while nine encounters ended in draws.
