Suriname and Costa Rica win in League A, advance to quarterfinals | OneFootball

MIAMI – The 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League continued on Wednesday with three encounters in Group A of League A to determine the final quarterfinalists on the road to the 2025 CNL Finals.

Costa Rica defeated Guatemala, Martinique and Guadeloupe played to a draw, and Suriname won against Guyana. With the day’s results, Costa Rica and Suriname secured the top two spots in the group to advance to the quarterfinals.

Guatemala and Martinique finished third and fourth, respectively, and qualified to the Gold Cup Preliminaries. Guadeloupe and Guyana finished fifth and sixth in the group to advance to the CNL Play-In.

Costa Rica vs. Guatemala

Costa Rica won 3-nil against Guatemala at Estadio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica.

Warren Madrigal opened the scoring in the 9’ to give the hosts the lead with a finish inside the box. The goal was Madrigal’s second of the campaign, assisted by Manfred Ugalde.

Kenneth Vargas doubled the lead for Los Ticos in the 38’ to capitalize on a fast break on the left flank, with a pass from Alonso Martínez.

Francisco Calvo scored the third goal of the match in the 72’ with a bicycle kick following a corner kick. With the goal, Calvo took his tally to seven and extended his lead as the all-time scorer in the CNL for Costa Rica.

Costa Rica goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira concluded the match with his third clean sheet of the tournament.

Martinique vs. Guadeloupe

Martinique and Guadeloupe played to a nil-nil draw at the Stade Roger Zami in Le Gosier, Guadeloupe.

Martinique goalkeeper Yannis Clementia registered two saves to close the group stage with a second consecutive clean sheet.

Guadeloupe goalkeeper Brice Cognard finished the match with three saves and registered his first clean sheet of the campaign.

Martinique secured fourth place in the group, retaining League A status. Guadeloupe finished fifth and is relegated to League B for the next edition of the CNL.

Suriname vs. Guyana

Suriname won 5-1 against Guyana at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadium in Paramaribo, Suriname.

Sheraldo Becker opened the match with a brace, scoring in the 3’ and 10’, with right-footed finishes inside the box.

Jalen Jones struck in the 13’ to cut the deficit for Guyana, scoring from close range following a delivery from a set piece.

Virgil Misidjan extended the hosts’ lead in the 33’ with his second goal of the campaign.

Goals by Denzel Jubitana in the 51’ and Ridgeciano Haps in the 69’ rounded out the win for Suriname.

Suriname improved to seven points, besting Guatemala on goal difference, to finish second place in Group A of League A. Guyana finished sixth in the group and will play in League B in the tournament's next edition.
