Darren Bent “knows what it’s like” to be rushed back from injury and Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be happy to have some extra respite.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England goalscorer cast his views on Everton’s recent fixture postponement against Aston Villa and the additional time off it will afford Everton’s sidelined players.

A coronavirus breakout at Bodymoor Heath led Villa to appeal to the Premier League for the match — originally scheduled for 17 January — to be pushed back.

The Premier League accepted, meaning Everton will have had enjoyed a 15-day gap between league fixtures once they play their next match against Leicester City next Monday.

This is a blessing, according to Bent, who argues that the likes of Calvert-Lewin will be grateful for the extra recovery time in this most frantic of campaigns.

He told Football Insider: “When you’ve got injuries it’s a question of how quickly these players can get back up to speed. And with Calvert-Lewin, they’re gonna need him because he got off to an electric start with 11 in his first 16 games. Superb.

“This buys them a little bit of time to get these players back fully fit.

“I know what it’s like. You can’t just throw players int the mix, you need to build them up. The fact they’ve got an extra bit of time off, that will only help.”

This is not the first time Everton have had a match postponed in 2020-21 through no fault of their own.

They were originally scheduled to play Manchester City on 28 December but that fixture was too rearranged following a spate of Covid-19 cases in the Manchester City camp.
