CELTIC… 6(Loferski 5 & 8, Smith 42, Shen 56, Hayes 60, Agnew 83)

Celtic FC Women sealed their place in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup with a 6-0 win over Montrose on Sunday afternoon.

An early double from Kit Loferski set the tone inside 10 minutes, before Jenny Smith, Shen Mengyu, Caitlin Hayes and Murphy Agnew added to the scoring to secure a place in the last four for the Hoops.

After making her full return in the starting line-up last week, Lucy Ashworth-Clifford was quickly playing her part in the goals, setting up Kit Loferski for the opener after just five minutes.

The American forward showed fantastic composure inside the penalty area, slotting the ball home with her left foot.

And Loferski took just another three minutes to add to her own and Celtic’s tally for the afternoon, and her second finish was just as impressive.

Latching on to a low cross into the area, the forward produced a cheeky flick at the front post to beat the goalkeeper and make it 2-0.

After such a quick start to the match, the Hoops continued to dominate proceedings, but were made to wait for their third goal.

However, just before the break, the Ghirls added to the scoreline as Jenny Smith grabbed a goal with a good finish into the far corner after being played through by Amy Gallacher.

Heading into the second half, the Celts' goal threat grew even stronger and in the early stages Elena Sadiku’s side struck both the post and crossbar.

It didn’t take long to grab a fourth, though, as Shen Mengyu pounced on a loose ball inside the area to smash the ball home from close range.

On the hour mark, Caitlin Hayes got in on the act, powering a terrific header beyond the Montrose goalkeeper after meeting Maria McAneny’s inch-perfect cross.

With a place in the semi-finals all but sealed, Elena Sadiku made a number of changes going into the final half-hour.

And it was two of the substitutes who linked up to grab the sixth goal as Murphy Agnew added to an impressive afternoon of scoring.

Chasing down a long ball over the top, some unselfish play from Shen Menglu allowed the American to round the goalkeeper and tap home into an empty net.

It was a comprehensive display from the Ghirls on their travels, and they now have a place in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup to look forward to next month.

Before that though, the Hoops will be gearing up for the post-split action to get underway as they take on Rangers at the Excelsior Stadium next Sunday.
