Jorge Mendes seeking to convince James Rodriguez to sign for Manchester United

According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Birmingham Mail), Manchester United have made an offer for James Rodriguez. The player’s agent Jorge Mendes is keen to see his client move to Old Trafford.

Rodriguez was, at one point in time, one of the best young players in the world. However, over the past few years, his stock has fallen considerably. Although still competent, he has failed to hit the heights expected of him.

The Colombian has fallen out of favour at Real Madrid and is not in Zinedine Zidane’s plans. With the 29-year-old refusing to even travel to games towards the end of the season, his time at the Santiago Bernabeu looks to be over. (h/t Birmingham Mail)

There are no shortage of suitors with the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton and Atletico Madrid all keen. (h/t Birmingham Mail)

As per the report, Mendes is ken to see him take up the offer from United. The player appeared to be on his way to Atletico. But club president Enrique Cerezo admitted that the Colombian was not in the club’s plans. (h/t Birmingham Mail)

Mendes’ push is also understandable given we are the biggest name in the fray.

Despite being available for cheap, it is debatable as to what Rodriguez can bring to the table. Although he enjoyed a new lease of life on loan to Bayern Munich, he looked miles away from the player he promised to be.

Not worth it!

At 29, he is not likely to be a long-term option either. United have in recent times focused on bringing in young players.

Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is United’s top transfer priority. With both the clubs apart in their valuation, dividing attention to Rodriguez could be counterproductive.

We are better off saving the amount to push through the Sancho deal. While Rodriguez is a player of the past, Sancho is one who belongs today and in the future.

  3. Rene Meulensteen believes Manchester United should sign Harry Kane over Jadon Sancho

Bringing in Rodriguez could be in direct violation of what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants. The Norwegian had earlier vetoed United’s pursuit of the Colombian superstar.

The club is better off distancing themselves from Rodriguez. There are better players out there who offer better value for money.
