Régis Le Bris has been nominated for the Championship’s end-of-season awards, with the French head coach up for Manager of the Season after leading Sunderland AFC towards a promotion chase.
Le Bris took over a side that finished 16th last season and has quickly transformed them into one of the better teams in the division. Sunderland have a shot at returning back to the Premier League, where they have not played since the 2016/17 season.
Sunderland sit fourth in the table with 76 points and four games left to play. It’s a point tally that already assures the club of a place in the playoffs, even if automatic promotion appears an unlikely prospect.
Last summer, Le Bris arrived in England as an unknown quantity with only two seasons of managerial experience under his belt. An impressive 10th-place finish in his debut campaign before a disappointing relegation at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Le Bris is up against the three managers above him in the league, Sheffield United’s Chris Wilder, Burnley’s Scott Parker, and Leeds United’s Daniel Farke.
