Sunderland

Régis Le Bris is contending with a defensive injury crisis. Daniel Ballard has been ruled out until after the international break with a groin injury, joining a lengthy list of absentees that includes Dennis Cirkin and Luke O’Nien. New signing Nordi Mukiele is expected to make his Premier League debut.

Brentford

Keith Andrews also has a number of fitness concerns. Frank Onyeka is a doubt after picking up a knock in midweek, and he joins Vitaly Janelt, Gustavo Nunes, and Paris Maghoma on the list of concerns. However, captain Nathan Collins has returned to bolster the defence. Wantaway striker Yoane Wissa will not be involved.

A 2-0 league defeat at Burnley was followed by a midweek Carabao Cup exit on penalties to Huddersfield Town. Brentford

After an opening-day loss, Brentford have hit their stride with two impressive victories. A solid 1-0 league win over Aston Villa was followed by a comfortable 2-0 Carabao Cup win at Bournemouth. The Bees will be confident of extending their superb eight-match winning streak against newly-promoted teams.
